I don't however see how anyone can believe that Intel's dominance of the market and ability to control margins has not been effected by AMD's success in selling the K6.

Prior to the arrival of the Cyrix MediaGX and the K6, CPU's sold for about $500. Now they sell for closer to $100. Even the most die-hard Intel fan has got to realize how much financial loss this has caused them.

Who knows. Maybe AMD and Cyrix will even make money some day .....

Clearly INTCs performance has been disturbed by AMD and others intrusion into INTCs private pond.

If you look at INTCs PEG it is at its lowest point since '86. Ditto for most of the other chip companies - they are all trying to take market share in "unconventional markets".

Ugly stuff for investors in any part of this market.

Guy99, Re:I don't own either INTC or AMD and have no ax to grind.

My comments weren't directed towards you, but rather towards the article. Estimates were for .73, they were then bumped up to .78, then to .80, then at the last minute the whisper numbers jumped up to .83, .84 and .85.

Intel came in at .89. The analysts were conspicuously silent after the release. I believe some very large brokerage houses want the price of INTC to stay low for at least another week. It was obvious to me that whatever INTC said or whatever they reported for the qtr was going to be pooh-poohed by WS. Short-term WS is a con game, but long term good earnings will always matter. So I'll hang in there for the long-term.
