brees,

<<1) We know that on this text the Bible can't be directly traced back to its original author. So there may be some latitude for discussion.>>

No, we didn't know that. We know that God is the author of scriptures and uses men to write down His words.

<<2) Hagar's father was the King of Egypt at the time. >>

Kings don't give their daughters to nomads. And if she were a kings daughter she would have gone back to the pleasures and riches of Egypt after she was cast away from Abraham. Nevertheless, if you can give proof that she was of royal blood I am willing to listen.

<<4) Abraham and Hagar's father were extremely happy to find each other because of their agreement on worshiping the one true God..>>

I don't recall that the Egyptians were ever monotheist. Can you show me where you got this source from?

<<7) The representative chosen by God to stand as the patriarch of his religion for the duration of Earth until judgement day is going to kick things off with adultery?? Again that has always seemed odd to me. God forgive us all for suggesting it. >>

Weren't Jacobs sons guilty of selling their brother because of spite? Didn't Solomon give his heart after women instead of God? Didn't David commit adultery and murder? Wasn't Moses refused to enter into the promised land because of disobedience? Didn't Jacobs first born son Reuben commit adultery? Didn't Abraham have concubines? Didn't he lie to Pharoah about his wife? Didn't his son lie about the same exact same thing? Didn't Sarah lie to the angel when she said she didn't laugh? Didn't Adam and Eve disobey God? Didn't Judah commit incest? Didn't Aaron build a golden calf and allow the people to worship it? The answer to all these is yes. However, God was not looking for perfect, sinless individuals, He was looking for people who had faith in Him and believed His promises. The only one who was sinless according to scriptures was Jesus.
