Your point does make good sense. When we finally get to the PC that is truly 'on now' when you flip the switch, we'll have the boot-up time I'm looking for. Perhaps very fast flash memory is the answer -- store the system configuration that way and skip any HD access...

Mary,

If one leaves the computer on all the time the start up time is not a problem.

It is also less harsh on the hard drives etc.

Unfortunately (for Intel), we're close to the time when this really won't be the case. Mini computer appliances, "crippled computers" are the reason for this. That's why Intel is trying to race up the food chain ASAP.
