I remember reading Dell got in trouble by expanding too rapidly once before.
Things were different then. To double the number of machines the company would double the number of workers and assembly lines. Now procedures are made scalable before expansion.

jhg, I will continue to watch the component pricing issue, although Darrel has put my mind at ease to some extent. It think it is better to be vigilant now then to be remorseful later on.

Actually, I think that the best time to move into a new market is during cyclical downturns. Hiring headaches are minimized, startup costs tend to be lower and because the market is relatively quiescent it gives you a chance to to get the kinks out of your operation at a less frantic pace. I think the timing is right.
