HP To Acquire Scope Communications, Inc. Acquisition Extends HP Reach Into Low-Cost, Handheld Communications Test Market PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard Company (HWP) today announces the signing of an agreement to acquire Scope Communications, Inc., a privately held developer of handheld network-test equipment, located in Marlborough, Mass. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Following the closing of the acquisition, expected later this month, HP expects to integrate Scope Communications, Inc. and its employees into the Service Test Division, Westford, Mass., a new HP unit, created to develop low-cost, small-format test tools for the communications market. This equipment enables users to verify that cabling conforms to standards and can support high-speed network technologies such as ATM and Gigabit Ethernet. Current product lines include the WireScope family of cable analyzers, Fiber SmartProbe testers and the FrameScope analyzer. Scope Communications, Inc. products are currently sold through a worldwide reseller network, and more than one-third of the company's current sales is derived outside the United States.
