How about $50 oil?

The market stabilized for a while at about$25-$30 some time back. That would imply something over $40 now.

MB, note the wording on the INTC announcement.

Confirming weeks of speculation, Intel Corp. agreed Friday to buy a $500 million stake in memory-chip maker Micron Technology Inc.
Under the agreement, Intel will acquire stock rights that can be exchanged for up to 6 percent of Micron's outstanding common stock.
$500M/.06 would value the company at approximately $8.3B, which is greater than the current market value and which would suggest more debt, with some kind of warrant, (right?). Would definitely be interested in hearing whatever insight you might have into this one.

$18 oil for a long period of time would cause a huge recession.

Mike, are you saying this because you feel world economies are extremely vulnerable right now ? Oil has spent a majority of the last 20 years above $18 and that is unadjusted for inflation. I don't believe it has been blamed directly for any recessions.

And, doggone it, I thought you were long oil. <ggg>

Michael -
Given the Fed easing and (somewhat) decent earnings from
the tech sector recently, are you looking for the semis/
semi equipment guys to rally from here through '99, stay
flat or decline ? Please comment on the different groups
of semi manufacturers viz the processor guys/memory/logic
etc.
Thanks very much,
Dushyant
