David, the assertion was that GS sold shares that it owned directly. This does not show up on a level II screen. The fact that it is market maker and has institutional accounts that were heavy sellers is irrelevant. LL contended that heavy selling through GS somehow proved that there was something wrong.

Now let me spin you an alternate scenario. GS makes a lot of money by buying and selling stocks, both in commissions and bid/ask spreads. When a stock is upgraded or down graded it stimulates volume, and the market makers stand to gain regardless of the direction. That's why the upgrade/downgrade cycle is so dangerous for small investors, and that's why I get so annoyed when people like LL make completely unfounded statements.
