Robertson Stephens group is a very large investment firm out of San Francisco, which I believe is associated in some manner with BancAmerica. Yahoo thread on Inco states that the shares were held by "Paul Stephens and his Contrarian Fund RSCOX".

My take on this is the opposite of tee/vee. Franco-Nevada is a class outfit that knows how to make money, so I see this as a very positive development. My guess is that Robertson Stephens needed the cash and therefore had to get out rather than wanted to get out. No doubt the Globe and Financial Post will speculate on this over the next few days.

Of course the seller could have been Friedland/Boule and/or Teck, which each hold a substantial chunk of NVB. All conjecture at this point.
