earthandspace.com

interesting...yes?
and it make me wonder about what
else it is we don't know. anyway, noone
could accuse ampex of generating press
releases to inflate stock price.

does anyone else feel other companies
might have used this to generate some attention.....
at any rate,
i trust imagio will have substantive press
some time in the near future, before we see that
future come into question, anyway.

Ampex moves to acquire MicroNet

By Christina Follmann (christina_follmann@macweek.com)

Ampex Corp. this week announced that it signed a letter of intent to acquire storage vendor MicroNet Technology Inc.

Ampex recently said it planned to expand into the electronic image processing and storage markets via acquisitions. Founded in 1944, the Redwood City, Calif., company develops high-performance tape, broadcasting and video production equipment. The company said it is particularly interested in MicroNet's new devices that will be aimed at the Unix and Windows NT markets.

MicroNet's lines have a "good synergy with Ampex products," said Karen Schweikher, Ampex director of corporate communications and investor relations. MicroNet could also offer Ampex a distribution channel to prepress markets, she said.

The deal would also help finance Irvine, Calif.-based MicroNet's forthcoming cross-platform thin servers and high-performance Impact RAID systems, MicroNet said.

Alex Grossman, MicroNet vice president of marketing, said the deal and the emphasis on Windows NT products will not affect the company's Mac lines. "We will continue to support and develop products for the Mac market in imaging, prepress and video," he said.

Schweikher, however, said Ampex was undecided on MicroNet's Mac products: "If it makes sense financially and product-wise, we would consider it."

Grossman said MicroNet will continue to operate as a separate company.
