I don't know the answer to that question. Maybe someone else on the thread can help us. I did read on the Yahoo threads that some people expect ASMLF to benefit from some orders from Samsung. It could also be that investors are buying the semi equipment companies that were beaten down beyond logic. They may be hoping that a better than expected earnings report from AMAT, in addition to the one from NVLS, will start a new upward spiral. KLAC certainly did not report better than expected and still rebounded after an initial loss. Money is just waiting to come into this sector, and since stock prices usually precede the industry rebound by 6 months, they are wary of missing the upturn.
