FWIW-- I know someone who worked for Metropolitan Insurance who told of huge warehouses holding vast files of information. Try retrieving data from that. That is why I am a LT holder of EMC. There is plenty to do.

JDN,

I think you're referring to early 1998 statements, no? I think that was BEFORE we started to see the general softening of demand in Asia, concern over growth in Europe and Latin America. I don't think EMC will be an island of prosperity going into global slowdowns. I just don't want to be blinded by past spectacular growth. Conditions have changed in the world and maybe even here in the USA, and caution tempered by prudence, until we hear otherwise, is warranted.

Management can't talk until Tuesday. I suspect that they will paint a very rosy past (and current quarter) picture, but reading between the lines on going forward, they will hint that in consideration of global issues, they reserve the right to reset expectations.

If I am wrong and they don't reset expectation (or continue to sing the same 30-37% song...), the stock should soar over 70, as they are/will be truly unique and immune to what is hitting other techs, chips and some software vendors.

We don't have to wait very long for the numbers and the CC (very important).

Regards,

PS: I am long EMC, but will be hedged.
