I really hate "YippieI/O" - the name (yeah it's cute . . . too cute), not the logo or the concept. I'd keep it internal only. The logo is a different story; I'd use it everywhere the company or its products show up. Steal another idea from Intel; paint the logo and "Adaptec Inside" on the damn roof!

You're right about the software; perhaps consumer ads for rolling your own CDs and videos would be effective. The money, though, is probably in OEM-package wins not retail sales of the software only. Brand awareness, though, is still important.

Hell, I'll settle for anything that increases company awareness and positive impressions. The last thing I want to see is for people to become aware of who Symbios or QLogic are.
