Why would 3Dfx want to buy Diamond? I don't think it's a good idea at all.

More exposure to a tough market, further pressure on their stock price, and Diamond's business is outside of TDFX's core competence.

I think TDFX is better off creating the chips and staying nimble rather than duking it out with CL and others for even lower margins of finished products.

Doesn't sound like a deal to me.
