Regarding DIMD, I am not so sure it would be a great idea either. How about paying less for STBI? In either case you would probably be in trouble since you would only be able to sell TDFX chips (unless you think nVidia would let a TDFX subsidiary sample their chips...).

DIMD has better retail channel. STBI better OEM contacts. Our big profits come at retail. We need OEMs to provide steady income. Both make motherboards (STBI should soon, anyway). Both have products outside of TDFX's expertise.

What should they do? They should do it themselves. Hire some top distribution and production guys, set up shop in Austin for sales/returns/support, and take the world by storm...

Getting DIMD would present an interesting opportunity...integrate Banshee and Aureal Vortex on board...add DIMD modem onto Micronics M-board...build the relationship with AMD to put K-6 2 into the system, add TV out and a DVD, and tada! Rock and Roll. The Monster Home Black Box.
