Lame?

Replace "Microsoft" above by "AT&T" and "software products" by "telephone services", and you will arrive at the same lame argument used by the defenders of Ma Bell a couple of decades ago. Today, there is not one sane soul lamenting the break-up of AT&T.

Just in case you have not noticed it seems with all the mergers going on with the regional telephone companies a new "ATT" is slowly being formed right in front of the DOJ which seems to have an ideological bent. I do not doubt that when the democrats lose the presidency in the year 2000 a new republican administration will squash any legals matters against Msft and or Intc. The republicans are just more free market oriented the democrats, for whatever reason, of which I am one, seem to think they know what is best for everyone but themselves and have a need to meddle with the market and everything free.

Dipy, be honest I bet you use Windows 95 / 98, I do, I bet you use the Msft internet browser, I do, probably because there is no better product out there not because you do not have a choice. For the record I do not use the Msft internet online service because I think there are better providers out there...and here is an example where Msft does not, imo, have the better product. Most people hook up with Aol. So in this matter the comparative advantage is being won with Aol not Msft.

Lame argument? From coast to coast and around the world people have voted with their dollars and have chosen Msft. That is what a market is all about. Consumers vote. Some businesses flourish others fail.

The doj did me no favor by breaking up AT&T. Now I have to pay two telephone bills instead of just one. And guess what... they both charge network access taxes, CA High Cost Fund charge "A" (?)
Lifeline surcharge, Rate surcharge,Relay service , Federal Tax & Local or State Tax!!!
Am I glad or better of with a bunch of telephone companies? NO!

As a matter of fact, they are starting through mergers to become another BIG AT&T.

Thanks doj for nothing....
