<History is being made here and now, gentlemen. I wonder how high school textbooks will describe this era, 30 years hence ...

Perhaps nothing material. After all, how much do high school textbooks say about the evolution of the automobile? Nothing material.>

Interesting to see Microsoft's Encarta 98 is free with some rebates. This implies that they expect to make it back by diverting you onto the net.

When you can finally make a fully functioning encyclopedia on cd/dvd, how much farther away is a textbook? Or set of text books for that matter. You could probably put all the books for high school on one or 2 dvd's. Then, build an online database to back it up. Charge $10 a month for a special education channel.

Now Bill will have the minds of the next generation.

By the way, it's interesting to think that many kids must be going to school wondering why they are studying things they already did on their home computer 2 or 3 years ago. Also, the surfing of knowledge allows kids to develop areas of interest in ways that have never happened before. The technology dividend that has trust business profits into unparalleled gain will also hit the school system. Pretty exciting.

Regards,

Mark

PS What kinds of games would you recommend for the notebook?
