Given the standard caveat that TA has serious failings when applied to thinly-traded stocks, I agree with you on 'most everything you said.

I happen to like MFI as an indicator to see whether there is "accumulation" taking place, ie people are buying and possibly even so-called "smart buyers" (larger lot sizes).

MFI for ALYA is shown here:

bigcharts.com

(One can play around with different time frames and technical indicators by going to the site bigcharts.com )

My interpretation of the chart I have selected is that there has indeed been some accumulation taking place, and that much of the sell-down over the past 3 months has been so-called "retail buyers" who have lost patience. (This is really a curious distinction, in a stock which has virtually no institutional holdings, as far as I can tell.)

The upper chart is also one of my favorites, as it shows graphically the number of shares which changed hands at each price point during the time period. As such it can provide a hint as to where future support and resistance levels may lie. In the case of this one, it would suggest that there will be pretty much even resistance all the way up to the 52-week high.

But in general I agree that there is not much in the way of hints that things are suddenly going to start happening to the stock price.

But I personally hold my small ALYA holdings as a long-term bet on a new technology ... so I don't play the daytrading game.
