Well, they only gave you an 1/8. You were on the hook as of the close, so today's gain is rightfully yours, as would have been a loss. I closed out my Oct 30 calls a day to early, a "gift" to whoever bought them from me. When I'm short an option that's at the money and it gets close to expiration, I'll often close my position because the risk/reward for an extra 1/8 or 1/4 is not worth it - I might save an 1/8 or lose a couple of bucks instead.
