>>Even the item you posted indicated there is still a difference of opinion on this subject.

Not really. The apologists for the Left have been reduced to defending the actions of the Left in the 30's, 40's and 50's by saying the larger truth must be denied because so much "good" was done by the crypto commies in the New Deal and elsewhere. Thanks but they, the Left, are responsible for the greatest reign of tyranny and mass murder in history.

>>As for your assertion that "innocent people did not suffer," logic alone suggests that when people can be fired on the basis of denunciations from anonymous informers, some innocent people are bound to suffer.

Actually, Buckley said that everyone named as a communist spy either lied about their affiliations or was later proved to be one. I welcome his new book.

As for Hollywood, Buckley also stated that there was far more retribution against actors and writers who did what they thought was right in exposing the significant, subversive communist presence there. There is no doubt that communists had an organized effort to take over Hollywood unions and use the film and television media to further their propaganda.

I welcome an examination of this era of US history because once again the Left will be shown for what it is and was. The truth is always their enemy.
