Are you saying you might be a procrastinator or is it normal to plant tomatoes in Southern California in the fall to get a winter crop?

Definately not normal. Consider it experimentation...

They were 12 in plants in 4 in pots. I asked the guy at the nursery if it was too late to plant. He said no. Hopefully I at least get enough green tomatoes to make the effort worth while.

I finally got a red one. The plants look healthy and have flowers and set fruit but the progress is slow motion. The green ones just seem to hang there forever. I stopped checking until today...sure enough now that the temp has dipped into the thirties at night a red one shows up. Unfortunately a snail got a piece of it. At this rate I do not think I will get my ten dollars back.
