hard to see that change. Going from MIPS to INTC. It's
the way to go, but they'll compete against DELL and CPQ.
AND UNIX programmers will have to switch to NT, which they'll
hate. Then again, lots of them will start using LINUX.
I read that the software developers for some of the BOEING
projects did this.

>>the nikkei's up 3%<<

I wonder what's pulling up the Japanese? If they break
15,000, US markets will love that. I'm still not completely
sure why we dropped so heavily today. I can see profit
taking, but we dove down very hard in the last few hours...
much more than I expected. Almost seemed like panic selling.

>>Although I'm fascinated by the day to day
activities of the mkt, in reality I am long coms (high 20's)and am looking for a double
within 2 years.<<

Me too. I'm expecting more than a double though. Plus, if
we go down again into mid 20's (it will be the 5th time I think),
one can make a good profit by not riding it down. Easier said
than done though. 32/26 = 23% profit.

This may be the answer to yesterday's frantic selling:

"The late-session pullback was partly attributed to a tumble in computer maker Dell Computer Corp. (DELL - news) on talk of a
broker downgrade and bearish comments about the company by Piper Jaffray.

After the close, Piper Jaffray said its analyst, Ashok Kumar, had made only broad comments about general information technology
spending, which was showing signs of weakness."
