SRT Selects 3Com as DSL Technology Partner to Offer Lightning-fast
Internet Connectivity - BW, 08:06 a.m. Oct 21, 1998 Eastern

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1998--3Com
Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) and Souris River
Telecommunications (SRT) today announced SRT has selected
3Com's Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) solutions
to deliver fast and reliable access to the Internet for businesses
and consumers.

SRT's customers can now experience improved web access,
easy Internet delivery of multimedia information between the
corporate and home office, and quick online video and audio
downloads. The alliance with SRT reinforces 3Com's strategy
to enable individuals and organizations worldwide to stay more
connected by communicating and sharing information and
resources anywhere, at anytime.

SRT also selected 3Com because of 3Com's ability to help
customers migrate from proprietary to standards-based DSL
solutions as they become available. 3Com is committed to
interoperable DSL products and offers customers investment
protection through a clear product migration path to
standards-based products.

"We chose 3Com as our technology partner because of
3Com's commitment to quality, a commitment that is a perfect
fit with SRT's standards for promoting the expansion and
improvement of its data network," said Lynn Nelson, Director
of Sales and Marketing for SRT. "We are pleased to work with
3Com to deliver to our customers the highest quality of service
and support."

SRT, an independent telecommunications company in Minot,
North Dakota, originally selected 3Com's ADSL products for
Ethernet networks including both ADSL CPE products and
ADSL access concentrators at the central office. This family of
products is geared towards enterprises connecting a central
network to workgroup local area networks (LANs) over
ordinary telephone wires. Connections of up to 3.2 Mbps are
provided without the cost of installing expensive fiber or
co-axial cable.

In keeping in step with 3Com's enhanced product
development, SRT has recently begun adding 3Com's ADSL
products for ATM networks, which includes ADSL CPE
products and ADSL DSLAM at the central office. This family
of products is tailored to telephone and Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) that want to offer broadband services over the
existing copper wires at speed up to 7 Mbps.

3Com's ADSL for ATM networks enables telecommunications
companies to offer mass-market broadband access services as
well as value-added services and applications such as
telecommuting, electronic commerce and content-distribution
applications. To meet demand for high performance, data and
images are delivered at very fast downstream speeds. Overhead
costs are also reduced because users do not have to install
another phone line. In single-loop service areas data and voice
can be simultaneously supported on one line.

"Today our business environment is ripe for ADSL, as the
demand to become more connected to the World Wide Web by
corporations and residential users has become not just a
convenience, but a requirement," said Al Brisard, Director,
Business Development xDSL, 3Com Corporation. "By
choosing 3Com's ADSL solutions, customers like SRT can
now capitalize on the expanding revenue opportunities
associated with ADSL, and provide end users with an
expanded repertoire of lightning-fast Internet services."

In addition to providing 3Com equipment necessary to bring
DSL to commercial as well as residential users, SRT will
install a service splitter to ensure consistent phone service
while DSL is in use, and a 3Com ADSL modem and a static
Internet Protocol (IP) address. SRT's DSL installation fee is
$110 and the monthly fee is only $49.95 plus Internet service
($13.95 - $16.95, depending on the provider). About 3Com

Joe:

Up at 2:28 AM responding to posts? Aren't you on Eastern time <g>?

Back in @ 301/2 this AM. While placing the order, I was humming an old "the Clash" tune, w/ the following lyrics:

"..just one thing I gotta know, should I trade or should I hold!"

Cheers,
