Some interesting info on embedded devices:

semibiznews.com

IMHO, "smart" devices are THE semi industry's killer appl. of the future. The Palm Pilot is its' poster child. WINTEL will not be able to monopolize (for the near future, at least).

Key questions for future observation & ongoing discussion:

1. Will the 3Com / Palm software "spinoff" dominate?

2. Will Motorola, or MIPS, or ARM / StrongARM dominate the CPU side of it?

3. Will COMS limit itself to pda type products, or will they begin to look at smart appliances?

4. Will the home network (another de rigeur "killer app") be based on 1 server linking information appliances and home appliances, and if such, can COMS play a role in the appliances (vs. switches, etc.)?

Respectfully submitted,

BP

blake,

>>Up at 2:28 AM responding to posts? Aren't you on Eastern
time <g>?<<

Was I up then? I must've been sleep walking<g>

Back in @ 301/2 this AM. While placing the order, I was humming an old "the Clash"
tune, w/ the following lyrics:

"..just one thing I gotta know, should I trade or should I hold!"<<

Good deal! Did you cash in the chips at $32 like these
other "practical" investors?<g>

I'm holding, unless I see a "real dive", not some dinky dive
like yesterday:-)
