I'm new to this thread and need some info, so please pardon my ignorance. (I don't have the time to read through 3000 msgs, if you know what I mean.)

I purchased this stock earlier in the year since the company seemed to be growing - record sales and earnings.

It tanked.

Value Line had them listed recently as a 1 - 1 (timeliness and safety). VL doesn't miss these things too often, do they?

It tanked even more.

The brokerages are downgrading the stock, it seems, daily.

It's tanking again today big time.

What's the future hold for this company? Any ideas when it is going to start coming back?

Re: "no need to get excited about buying"...

Agreed. Ordinarily I'd be inclined to make trading plays after a drop like this, maybe after three days or so, when the dust may have cleared somewhat. But I'm thinking now of waiting until November 2, when we don't have to fear mutual fund tax loss selling any more.

Earlier, perhaps, if PSFT announces a stock buyback next week or on this Friday, the day when it is my understanding that under company guidelines financially knowledgeable employees can trade once again.

As far as a long-term-investment buy, I haven't a clue. And I'm very comfortable with that statement. <g>
