Dale,

I'm not saying that's the only reason they mark them NS. There are a lot more marked 'No Shorts' now than there were just one month ago. I think they must have lost some arrangement giving them the ability to short shares kept elsewhere. Either that or everyone and his brother is now shorting (which could be possible).
I just thought that it was interesting that they specifically mentioned KTEL and AMZN as being NS just because 'people were losing money' according to the guy I talked to. He even mentioned that he did not belive any broker would let me short them. I responded that I had shorted AMZN using DLJDirect and he seemed surprised. I think that they may have allowed too many shares of KTEL to be shorted in the past (this was discussed I believe) and now they are going in the other direction too far.

I don't see why it can't be kept up to date electronically like the NM flag. It seems like stocks fall into the black NS hole and never come out.

I think a lot of people are going to leave Datek if they cant short the good (read lousy) stocks anymore. Anyone will let you short MSFT, and Datek isn't concerned if you lose money doing that.
