Datek's previous ability to short any stock was...curious...to say the least. Of course it was awesome for people who like to short.

What changed? Take your pick:
1) Datek is cleaning up their act
2) Datek has found a different, more profitable, way to play dirty

Either way it seems that Datek no longer offers any advantage over other brokers for shorting. <sob>

Andy- I agree with you that there are probably other reasons why they aren't allowing certain shares to be shorted. The excuse that they want to prevent customers from losing money by shorting certain stocks is pretty weak and transparent.
