If they wrote a straddle, then don't they collect the premium? If this is true, then no movement is what this investor, I mean speculator, is hoping for...

I think he knows what he was doing. As long as the price does not move much from $5 before expiry date in Nov, he will be ok. According to the article, this person is most likely a hedge fund...so a few million bucks may be nothing to him (the fund).
