Yes, I understand that. But, you seem to be suggesting that buying in anticipation of earnings didn't work in Aug. I bought in anticipation of a run up to the earnings date. It didn't happen, and the day Dell's Aug earnings were released, my Dell Aug calls were down. The next morning, I sold when I was up 50%. It worked for me.

The same thing could well happen this time too. I play it by being a bit more conservative and buy Feb calls.
