If you already have gains, can you short against the box to move gains to the next year in Canada?

I wouldn't sell the gold fund, but that's just me.

Miklosh: My view on capital gains taxes...

...maximize them. If you are paying a lot of taxes, then your are making a lot of money.

But if you want to sell, and defer the tax impact, sell January 20 calls. Everything becomes a 1999 event.
