Hello Jane,

I Kings 19

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

I heard a Christian entertainer (with a decent ministry) speak of the same issue regarding John the Baptist that you have mentioned. He termed it "What he learned in the light, he had forgotten in the dark."

Your disdain for sensationalism and performance replacing worship is shared by many. Revelation 3:14-20 is the wake up call to our churches.
I wouldn't agree that unless a person has doubts they maybe aren't on the right path with God. However as I said earlier, I haven't met any Christians who don't experience them including myself. Yet even in that doubting, God still provides comfort through His word, the guidance of the Holy Spirit or hard lessons learned. Tribulation works patience.

God bless you with the overflowing abundance of His presence throughout this day.

John

HELLO JANE !!!!

That was shouting in case your ears are still suffering from the rock band muzic.
Whipped off that response to your post quickly before work this morning. Some profound disdain expressed there for such...music? When I think of how all things were created for God's pleasure I don't have to ponder long on what He must think of some of the stuff out there with Satan on lead vocals.
I'm hard line on the issue as well. Reaching out to kids with the likes of Stryper is the same thing to me as passing out drugs wrapped in Christian literature to addicts. I don't condemn all music other than old fashion gospel by any means, but it is nice to be able to understand the lyrics.
I've heard awhile back that some churches were attempting to draw crowds by warming up the audience with comedy acts. I'd suggest the only comedy must be what is being spewed out from those pulpits.
A Spirit filled, Spirit led preacher doesn't need a warm up act because God can act on His own using whomever He chooses for His purpose.
The same can be said for a person using their musical talents with God's leading.
Lord willing we're on to a wonderful weekend that the Lord has made.
And hey! Sunday is a coming!
God bless,
John

Hello Jane and John,

I've been intrigued by your discussion of rock n' roll Christian "worship" music. As one of those twenty-somethings, I know many people who really like this kind of music, but I've always looked at it from a different view.

If I can't understand the lyrics of the songs, I see little way they could be bringing God glory. Then again, I'm guessing that there are a few teenagers in this world who were led to Christ by liking this kind of music and then meeting Christians who also liked this music. Would they have come to Christ through different means anyways as God was drawing them? I believe so, but nevertheless these questions are a bit tricky and make the issue of Christian rock n' roll confusing to me. I've therefore chosen not to take a stance.

Interested in all your comments...

God's love,

Grant
