<<Yes, tolerance has gotten a bad name, due to the assiduous efforts of the ever manly Republican party. Now it's cool to say nasty things about blacks, women, homosexuals, you name it.>> Dan, this is close to blackmail. You know it isn't "cool" to do any of the above. However, no one raises an eyebrow when a white business man is made to look like a total fool in a sitcom or movie. You can make them the butt of office jokes (of course I don't mean your particular employer) and it is definitely cool. The blackmail I'm refering to is that there is a protected status in public society for the characteristics you mentioned, but it has gotten way carried away to the point that a PhD in cultural sociology could not successfully carry on a normal open ended conversation that includes any of the identities you mentioned, with out risking a backlash from somebody. So, a few years ago, most people decided there was no benefit in being extreme since nobody could successfully satisfy the politically correct extremes. Normally that didn't result in people running out the door screaming the "N" word though. I admit their are abusers in the world. When has it not been so. So what. You paint a picture of the republicans being this type of person, and that it is generally cool. Where, I don't see it, unless you are talking about some small extreme clutch of people that are of no real consequence to the mainstream. Some people like to carry this torch though to intimidate others. I think you just tried to do that to me. Just for clarity, I don't consider having standards to be equal to intolerance. I am not sure if you would agree and I am not asking what your standards are. But you appear to be declaring a war on republican standards, as a standard.
