Hi, Mike!!! Yeah, I'm getting way too used to 3D stuff. I love being here once I get started, but find it difficult to squeeze in the time, sometimes. It might have a little to do with the fact that my sweet teenager is on the phone when she is not on the computer, which pretty much wipes out any evening opportunities for me to be online. And we just discovered Hollywood Video, which tries a lot harder than Blockbuster did, letting everyone keep their movies, even the new releases, five days. So there is always a stack of interesting stuff to watch lying around tempting me.

We are now in the third week of a mammoth fifteenth birthday celebration. Twenty teenagers are going to be here all evening tonight, celebrating. Last year we only had nine, and one of the boys managed to intentionally rip a very nice decorative pillow sham to shreds. I guess he was sublimating his wild sexual desires or something! We got a pinata and filled it with candy, which is something I remember from my own early childhood in southern California. That and frothy cinnamon hot chocolate! The old Spanish underpinnings of western culture are very strong here, and since the Latina women have more than twice as many babies, they will predominate within a few decades according to the most recent projections. I wonder if English will become a second, optional language here. Demographic trends are very strong.

Um, well, where was I? Oh, the pinata. I am going to blindfold the children so that it will take a long time for someone to break it open, and it will be amusing to watch, as well. Then there will still be four more hours of vigilant chaperoning ahead. I'm very happy that I had a child, but sorry that it happened so late in my life--I'm really ready to take it easy, and I doubt the next few years will be that way, at all.

I didn't know about General Mills promoting "Box Tops for Education." I think that's a wonderful idea, and thanks for telling us about it. American industry ultimately benefits from a well-educated work force. Of course, you must know I think this is all quite backwards. Education should be a priority of the entire society. What is that old liberal saying about why military gets funded but education doesn't? Something about holding a bake sale to buy missiles, I think.
