Call me a pessimist if you want, but this does not have the big time feeling about it yet. Remember May? Steven was quite open in his excitement about the announcement then, inviting people on the thread to the news conference . Probably some smaller announcement to build momentum and interest, if anything Lonely in the Dunno Universe Paul

Good call, Zhukov. A few ruminations: I think it might be prudent to reign in our expectations for Monday and Tuesday. It is entirely possible that the announcement -- though welcome -- will be intramural. It also might be prudent not to worry about the extramural reaction. If it is blase, we should just try to appreciate the portent of announcement. On what path might it be a consistent next step? What bad possibilities might it put to rest? I expect news. I expect it to be good. I expect it to suggest an even better story, going forward, than we have been expecting so far. But I also expect that it will require a discriminating eye to see its value. If it ends up being a huge breakthrough to the promised land, there will be plenty of time for euphoria.
