Dreyfus does that too for online trades. There is nothing to tell you online whether they have the borrow, but I usually get a phone call within about 10-15 minutes if they can't find the stock. They will tell you if you do a phone trade, they check while you hold.

Same here. I finally called. They said they had a lot of short orders and were refusing them as fast as they could due to the lack of share to borrow.

Like I said the other day, the best and the worst.
