ttf,

Okay Ill tale a stab at it.
Your sounding like a CIO from the ol mainframe days....you're a risk averse guy and don't want to touch any new applications without a guarantee. Sure you'll implement new erp systems based on increasing inventory turns or reduced work in progress because you've done several of those in your career and know the roi....but front office what's that? Just too scary? It reminds me of the CIO's back in the early 80's that wouldn't touch manufacturing quality levels of 99% because they couldn't justify the payback. Eventually they found out they couldn't compete without it, but by the time they got around to automating those applications they were just playing catch up. The ROI goes to the early majority.

Surely you've got one or two of the big integrators roaming around your company, haven't they given you the front office sales pitch yet? D&T or AC are talking an easy 12-18 month payback with a huge NPV over 5 years years back up with empirical data, not to mention the intangible competitive advantage. All of your competitors are way ahead of us on front office automation and we're worried about our competitive position. Get your self up to speed on these new applications or I'll go looking for a CIO with some fresh ideas.
