Now we are getting somewhere.

Melissa and Amsterdam as the closing sales team to try and get a PO in 1999.

First off let me say I am not risk averse and I have spent MORE time with the bleeding (severely in many cases) edge than you give me credit for so you probably won't sell me if you keep telling me what a dinosaur. That never worked well when I tried it while selling for Oracle. BTW, what would you say the average CIO age is? Hell, I'm only 38, and I am a dinosaur to you? Careful here. This kind of arrogance just got ITWO tossed from the account I am at.

Now regarding your assumptions about my relationship with the VP of Sales. He has the best parties I've ever been to and we golf three times a month at his club. He comes to my house for barbeques in the summer and we ski together in the winter. Yes, I think he is a powerless goofball... Now that we have dispensed with that.

So to solve my IT budget constraints and put SFA on the agenda you advocate I use inexpensive third party resources like Anderson? Well I have the rate sheet here and the tab from the recent Oracle Fin Apps project that just wrapped up and I'm having a hard time with the numbers on these guys. We went $46M overbudget on the Fin/Mfg piece. Damn near wrecked us.

Oh, BTW, yes I am aware that my IT department can handle more than one or two projects at a time, thank you.

Now can we get back to you convincing me of the dire need to do this in 1999. I like the VP of sales a lot and he likes you a lot, but he trusts me on this one. He saw the Fin/Mfg apps debacle and doesn't want his butt removed before he pays off the Porsche.

Another spin.....

We've spoken to a few of the systems integrator types and they have noticed a sharp DECREASE in the deployment times of the erp/backoffice systems in the last 6 to 9 months. (ASAP and other rapid deployment stuff apparently are working.)

Since they have extra consultants freed up at an earlier stage, they are making a massive effort to sell the benefits of an integrated front office solution. (also business intelligence too, but that belongs on the hysl thread) Currently their business with clarify (their primary focus) is growing around 30% each sequential quarter and they expect it to continue at that pace for the next year and accelerate coming out of 1999.

It's nice to see these threads come back alive a little bit....
