<< Now can we get back to you convincing me of the dire need to do this in 1999. I like the VP of sales a lot and he likes you a lot, but he trusts me on this one. He saw the Fin/Mfg apps debacle and doesn't want his butt removed before he pays off the Porsche.>>

That's why he'll bring in an outside consultant. Because the IT department screws up everything in this company And as far as the Porsche goes...I'll tell him not to worry. I'll pay it off for him.

This kind of arrogance just got ITWO tossed from the account I am at.

Itwo was tossed? Where? Oh and btw, did you say you have a client that is tossing Oracle ERP for Sap? Who? This came up on the Oracle thread.

A little tongue and cheek here;

We won't tell you you're a dinosaur. We'll stroke your ego so well you'll think that Melissa thinks you're good looking (sorry Melissa). But, we'll talk to the the VP of Sales who knows you well and he'll tell us you're a dinosaur. He still golfs with you weekly just so you'll pay attention to his department even though he knows you don't respect it and know even less about it.

We'll justify the ROI to him first and it'll be good enough that the best you can do is moan and sit on the fence. There won't be enough holes in it for you to launch the negative offensive because the numbers look too good. Besides you don't want to wine too much in front of Melissa 'cause you're thinking about hanging with her at the user group in Bermuda (this is business Melissa). By now the VP of sales is really interested because he see's a way to blow out his number next year and make a lot of money for himself and get lot's of kudo's from the President. He wants to be President of International based out of Paris and this is his ticket to stardom. If you start raining on his party he'll go around you to the President in a NY minute. The President relates to him better anyway because he's a sales & marketing guy too, and besides, the VP of sales is the one who helps him make the quarterly numbers while you're the doomsday artist that has a boatload of propellor heads on the payroll.

We're not advocating using third party resources. Haven't you heard the game of having them come in and pitch some big business because they've got reams of empirical data that you can use to back up your decision. After you've heard the story from the big guys then just turn it over to a second tire outfit that does better work at lower rates anyway. Or let the software vendor do it. It's their stuff and unlike an integrator they're not trying to sell you three other huge projects at the same time so that they never have to leave. They want to get in and get out so that the services revenues don't screw up their multiple on wallstreet. But if you're really risk averse go ahead and use AC, no one gets fired for that do they?

TTF,

Once again you are still confusing Back Office with Front. If you don't understand the difference and what you want to accomplish with Front Office Apps you should go the way of the dinosaur.
