Thanks ajd/mba, In the body of the news release the word application is written, but I almost fell for it also.

It seem that every stapler I see is patent pending. I don't see the advantages of patent pending.

Hi ajd/mba - I'm not a patent lawyer, but here's my explanation. Six months ago, Jaws started the process to apply for a patent. NUANS searches have been completed and the patent agent Jaws is using is the same one who did the RSA patent. So, yes we now have patent pending status. As I understand it, it could take 5 years to obtain a full patent (I don't know if that's the right terminology), but in the interim, the algorithm is protected from L5 clones.

To me, the most important part of the PR was the fact that Jaws will now allow invited 3rd parties to test the algorithm. Obviously the company feels that with this filing, they have protected themselves from anyone ripping them off.
