Cahners In-Stat Group Expects [Linux] to Gain Popularity with Telecom Industry

David,

Maybe INPR should pay attention to article like this since they want to focus on telecom industry:

linuxtoday.com

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1998--Cahners In-Stat Group believes that in the near future the telecommunications industry, vendors and users both, will benefit from an operating system, one they have largely ignored in the past, called Linux.

The majority of PC server makers are expected to begin offering Linux on their boxes next year, adding to its market presence.

''Linux is cheaper and more robust than Windows NT and has open source code to allow for customization, making it a compelling alternative for the telecom industry,'' said Brian Strachman, research analyst for Cahners In-Stat Group's Telephony Service. ''This operating system is reliable, scalable, simple to reconfigure and most importantly, it's free.''

Linux is one of the fastest evolving operating systems in history and Cahners In-Stat Group expects a flood of new applications to Linux to arrive in 1999.

Re: "At what point will margin accounts get called (i.e. how long must inpr be < 5)? This has me very concerned. I do not have any margin on INPR, but if margined holders get squeezed, we could be in real trouble."

I'm not sure how it is with most brokers but my broker does not allow stock under $6 to be margin. I wouldn't worry about any margin calls especially after yesterday and today's trading activity. And I do not think the company buyback had anything to do with today's and yesterday's trading. So going forward it looks like if only the company buyback come into play were going up from here soon.

David,

Some brokers allow margin at 6 and above, some 4 and above. But with the vast majority of brokers both full service and discount it is $5 per share. That is why $5 is such an important price of any stock. You are right to be concerned that margin calls would force the stock lower, except that INPR has announced it's intention to perform a stock buyback. I'm sure this will be used sparingly over the next few weeks to insure that the price does not spend any length of time below 5 in the hopes that when the plan has exhausted it's purchases, the stock price will remain above 5 on it's own. Time will tell.
