David, more: Sony sees first parent loss in six years
Reuters - 05:14 a.m. Oct 28, 1998 Eastern

TOKYO, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics giant Sony
Corp said on Wednesday the yen's sudden surge against the
dollar, a harsh pricing environment and a global economic
downturn will zap its profits in the second half of this business
year.

But Sony got a lift from brisk overseas sales of PlayStation home
game machines while sales of other electronics products, such as
MiniDisks, video cameras, DVDs and the Wega flat-screen TV
series held steady, he said.
