Mohan -
I am a little surprised at your enthusiasm here. Dell does not have any capability in this area outside of their OEM agreement with DG Clariion. CPQ is the leader in this space both from a revenue perspective and from a product perspective and does more than 6 times DG Clariion's total revenue, even including Clariion's OEM sales to HP. CPQ developed a lot of the silicon and also the standards in this area going back to 1995, and have had fibre products in the market for more than a year including fibre-based clusters.

This would seem to be one of the areas where Dell's surf model puts them at a disadvantage since they need to wait for products to become generally available before they can put together product offerings, and they have limited ability to innovate. Also large SANs take a significant service and consulting component, another area where Dell does not have a large capability.

Is there something I don't know about Dell's position here that would make this development a positive for Dell?

Morning Mohan,..Re:<< Durable Goods Orders for Sept.>>

Doesn't look like too much of a slowdown from this report. <g>

census.gov

Shipments of durable goods in September increased $2.9 billion or 1.5 percent to $191.7 billion. This follows a 1.0 percent August increase and is the fourth consecutive monthly increase. Year-to-date, shipments are 5.0 percent above the same period a year ago; shipments for the third quarter are 1.5 percent above the second quarter.

Regards,

Lee

EDIT - CNBS said Aug. revised up 2%! Saw in the report it was revised up but didn't see the percent.
