Scumbria - Re: "Conclusion 1:.Celeron will cannibalize PII sales. "

AU contraire - The Celeron is cannibalizing K6-2 sales. Check out your local Computer Super Stores and Mail Order Catalogs. Celeron based PCs are becoming the dominant retail PC. For a reason. They offer MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE than the K6-2 which has a slow, fixed L2 cache speed. The Celerons (Mendocino) have a VERY fast on-chip L2 cache!

Re: " Conclusion 2: Intel's profits will remain stagnant."

Wrong again - Intel's Celeron is replacing CHEAPER Pentium MMX's and Intel's profits are INCREASING - $1.6 Billion in Q398 up from $1.2 Billion in Q298.

Thats a tidy $400,000,000 profit INCREASE, Scumbria.

To put it in perspective, Intel's PROFIT INCREASE from Q2 to Q3 EXCEEDED AMD's TOTAL CPU REVENUE in Q398 !

Re: " Conclusion 3: INTC will remain in the doldrums."

Intel is not in the doldrums. Have you checked Intel's stock lately or the value of your January PUTS?

Have you read Intel's Q398 Earnings Report ?

I suggest you do.
