I just saw some interesting numbers from Bear Stearns on Asian equity markets. It reports that from their lows in August and September the markets of the following countries have risen in U.S. dollar terms:

Indonesia (+90%)
Thailand (+73%)
China (+72%)
Hong Kong (+45%)
Singapore (+39%)
Philippines (+38%)
Japan (+22%)
Taiwan (+16%)
Malaysia (+15%)
India (-1%)

Other emerging markets:

Brazil (+45%)
Mexico (+41%)

Though it is certainly possible that the old lows will be broken it may be that the Templeton “Principle of Maximum Pessimism” will work again.
