I sure agree that, quarter by quarter, this is a slow battle to win. Since my company sells software that uses ObjectStore, I see many of the issues that the ODIS sales force sees.

One point that Bob Trocchi and I discussed the other day was interesting. It has been pointed out to me (by a very experienced sales & marketing guy) that when I demonstrate software that uses ObjectStore, most of the technical people simply cannot believe how much faster and easier it is than the RDBMS. They just cannot accept it. Bob said that he saw the same thing in the early days of minicomputers, where people just couldn't believe that a mini could be so much better (on a price/performance basis) than a mainframe.

DEC sure had a hard slog staring out. But they made a few bucks eventually!
