Bill,

I don't think we can assume the Central Office modem will be splitterless. I would assume the other way around that the CO "ATU-C" modem will have a splitter which supports both G.heavy and G.Lite. The need for the splitterless option is to reduce truck rolls, not to remove the splitter for the heck-of-it. Granted some vendors will provide DSLAM's that ONLY support G.Lite, I don't see the advantage over an ATU-C which supports both.... maybe power consumption ,thus increased density... until later

Bill, I'm not sure you're correct in stating the service provider will have one modem for each customer modem, or stated another way a one to one modem ratio. Could you tell us why this is and how it works?

Siemens has licensed technology from Aware. Siemens plays an important role in Europe, as it is the chief supplier for Germany, Austria and the rest of Europe. Most cities have telephones, no cable.
Aware claims that it can provide cheaper technology than French Alcatel.
With LU in USA and Siemens in Europe, Aware with their proprietary Splitterless Solution covered a significant part of the civilized world, eagerly waiting for the implementation of ASDL.
Once people realize the meaning of the SS, Aware will become another Rambus.
