<<I think we are in a basing mode; the sector is holding rather well here actually. >>

I hope you are right. But I got the feeling today that the only thing keeping the OSX from dropping another 5 points was the rally in the broader market. Those wicked drops don't always start with 5-10% declines. (I know you're speaking more to the issue of shorting than taking profits off the table; my comments are just general observations.)

What do you feel will happen here if (as is at least as probable as not) nothing comes of this week's OPEC meeting.

Uh oh, it looks to me like HAL missed their number by $.09 a share. Please correct me if I am wrong, but the press release shows earnings of $.44, and my Zacks report dated 9/30/98 shows estimate of $.53. Anybody have any insight into this.

No, it's got nothing to do with fundamentals. I lost my shirt buying on fundamentals. It is strictly due to the technicals (stochastics trading system). The stochastics are particularly compelling during this cycle because they are behaving so uniformly and predictably (so far). I imagine I will be short from 5 to 10 trading days as this is the length of the typical down-cycle.

It's nice to be ahead on my trades for a change. I sold too soon (about 5 days and 20% before the top) but at least I shorted at the right time. We'll see if things pan out according to the stochastics.
