My aren't you the cynical one. It could just be that a low-cost machine is aimed at the elderly and young first-time buyers because they have the least amount of money to spend on a computer. Sounds like a smart marketing move to tap a new niche, to me.

Look here, youngster, we're the Pepsi generation and we've got the loot to spend on any damned thing we want. We chiseled more Social Security than we paid for out of you boomers. It makes no sense to aim loss leaders at us, we are buying computers for the ages -- I'm going to be buried with my Dimension 450, and am scheduled to be dug up and upgraded at least every five years. I hope it will transmit any post-mortem words I might say, or at least any sounds of escaping gas.
If IBM is going to push crap like that at us, they'll fall flat on their friggin' faces. And the same goes for their stinking cat!
