the market as a "zero sum" game?

>>>
In every trade there is both a person who makes money and a person who loses money.
<<<

counter examples:

In a long running bull market, long term holders tend to make money. If they buy and sell to each other, they all make profit.

In a long running bear market, long-term holders tend to lose money (at least on paper).

Perhaps the "zero sum" game is more applicable to "hype stocks" such as CAWS. Especially when the bid/ask spread gets too large. For this arena you may be correct :-(
