cb, i really liked waterhouse when they were my broker. here are some highlights: 1. 24/7 800# access. 2. web, phone and bricks and mortar access (for those REALLY bad days ;-) 3. quotes, news and research. 4. customer service was absolutely great. 5. $12 a trade up to 5k shares in a web account. about $30-40 for using the phone or trading in person. my ira is going to waterhouse. the only reason i left them was b/c i wanted instinet and selectnet access. now, price transparency has all but eliminated the benefits of insti and selectnet - not to mention my broker is shut down! ;-) check out waterhouse.com . i think you will be impressed. my reg acct is going to dreyfus b/c they have cheap option commishes. $1.75 a contract with a $15 minimum. i asked waterhouse if they would match it and they said no. good luck.
