Management changes have surely inspired confidence in investors as has the return to a more focused business. These developments, I think, have spurred more interest in the company. The interest assuredly comes from people who want to make money. The most important of those are the money managers, who abandoned Adaptec earlier this year, when they saw losses. That is when institutional holdings dropped from about 89 percent to 59 percent. I think they are buying back in. And with the stock buy-back program, and the current apparent health of the market, the stock is showing a revival.

It will fall again, but I don't expect it to drop below the mid-teens, all things considered, unless 1) bad news is reported about the company or sector, or 2) the market as a whole is hit by distressing news. Still, I have been burned and remain a wary investor.

I remain optimistic about the next 6 months. For what it's worth.
